>17 inch 4:3 LCD
yeah no

I used a 23" 4:3 trinitron with a PC i'd set up to output native 15khz signals and i can't imagine going any smaller than that, and i could put it on its side for vertical games like 1944 and stuff which was most of what I played. Vertical games are ok on a smaller screen like that, but for fighters and beat em ups you want bigger. Also I doubt that screen is 640x680 or more ideally 320x240 so the games are going to be scaled and either blocky or worse blurry and also there are no scanlines which some of the games actually take into account for how theyre designed. I know there's no way to get a reliable supply of CRTs these days, but it would be best to use a larger higher resolution screen that can be made to look like a crt with blanking out lines and things like that, and they should be using oled

This is really cool and I've wanted to build a MAME cabinet since I was in middle school and I love that theres someone trying to do this, but it's unfortunate that they didn't do it well enough to satisfy my autism. hopefully it sells well enough though and maybe later revisions will be better.

Those are 100% indisputable FACTS. Now recommend some romhacks - Sacred Trilogy is great, there has to be more.

1 and 4 are the only two ive played but im meaning to get to 2 and 3 which were psp exclusive, 3 jap only. id say 1, 2, or 4 from what ive read about 2 and 3, and if you like them it seems 3 would be worth checking out. 2 is more school themed but gameplay wise i believe its the same.
1 is a good entry point but 4 is probably my favorite of the two, i really like the mortar class in 4. 1 can be easy to cheese for high rank, but if you arent trying to cheese it then its whatever, a non point.

sounds about right
mana series got all cocked up by 90s localization faggotry
at least it got released at all
as bad as nintendo was/still is w localization, its got nothing on sega

picrel
this kike, while working for sony, was so fucktarded that he tried his damndest to make sure no rpgs or 2d games came out at all in the 32 bit era. sony, rightly, gave him the boot
he was then scooped up by sega of america, who shared in his retarded vision, thus forcing damn near every 3rd party dev over to sony by default. basically singlehadedly killing the saturn, relegating it to arcade ports only in the states, and by extension, killing sega

so many cool looking jrpgs and 2d games the saturn had, all nip only because some retarded kike in a suit

liking the idea of using the L and R buttons for SNES emu too
was looking for a decent USB SNES controller as well, but they all look like fuking shit, so im thinking of just going with one of these ones

yeah my mom bought me a retrobit usb controller for christmas one year and it sucked so bad that i threw it away. i felt bad cause i know she just wanted to get me something that i'd like and i appreciated it but it's hard for parents

well the verdict is i really suck at fighting memes tbh

its a bit wobbly for my taste which, in its defense, is accurate to what genny controllers were as in, when i start getting my ass kicked and start mashing out of fear, i start jumping/crouching accidentally. so its plenty sensitive/responsive. prolly too sensitive for me tho
if youre sooper cereal about playing fighting memes, id still imagine youd want a real stick at some point.
but then, you definitely cant even buy a cheap stick for anywhere near 20 doll hairs
so for the value its legit imo
the buttons are also feeling nicer now ive worn em in a bit

and i should clarify: the button layout is similar to saturn, as in the L/R triggers are kinda pointless, and the rest are decent. the shape is, as far as i can tell, literally the same mold as the 6button genny. so not as thick as saturn ones which is kind of a shame tbh

>>425
turns out the thing it was cloning the bios from was all cocked up
i tracked down my own and put em in there manually and now some mame games work, after pointing each game to its corresponding bios.
i got frustrated trying to figure out which is which way too fucking many and just went back to playing genesis again tho

Yeah MAME shit can be tedious to set up on devices like that. The only arcade games I managed to set up properly on my NES Mini were NeoGeo games, and that was using FBA rather than MAME. Even with that I couldn't manage to set up CPS2/3 games but that doesn't matter since the few games I care about for that have PSX ports

rather waste my own time over someone elses money

>>445
>FBA
def had much better luck with that one in the past
i get why MAME is more tedious, as it can emulate way more cabs
its just arduous to set up properly

that's nuts. yeah some SEGA games had crazy ways the devs managed to get all the shit to work when seemingly it shouldn't have been able to at all. sonic 3d comes to mind, there's another one with a scrolling, forward rolling floor in an intro sequence that I read about years ago but I don't remember the game and can't seem to find it on a cursory search

anyone played the "soldier" series on pc-engine?

super star soldier is the first one
pretty easy, but ive spent the least time with it of the three, the other two are just too good

final soldier JP only is stupid easy, but still fun imo. perfect to learn on. unlimited continues that start you at beginning of stage, so if youre gay like me :333 it can be a good one to learn on without smashing your controller. i also like how you can burn your options as screen clearing special moves, and its awesome how you can change what each powerup does at the beginning.
literally the first shooter ive fucking ever cleared

soldier blade (vidrel) is the "hardest" one of all of them, but still not bad at all. good to build confidence. i like the way you can combine powerups on the fly, and you can still burn options for special moves.
awesome music too. in fact i rly never played too much pc-engine shit before, and i gotta say, while i still prefer FM (when done right), its a great sounding little system.
its also easily the most visually impressive pc-engine game ie not PC-CD/turbo-duo, cuz that award goes to the JP castlevania rondo of blood ive played so far.
its fucking gorgeous and runs like butter, especially when you consider that the pc-engine was marketed in nipland as a competitor to the NES. absolutely trounces the poor little nintendo, with its godawful flickering and pathetic 3 sprite limit. no wonder it did so well over there.
but im not even sure how they pulled it off tbh. only the graphics processor was 16-bit. the actual CPU was still only 8-bit.
yet its indecipherable from a genesis game, and imo looks better than 90% of the shit sega of america shat out

this shit metroid rogue dawn is fire tbh
cant get over how good the music is. fits like a glove.
level design is based too.
i mean i know everyone likes super metroid the best, and is gud and all, but the OG metroid is still prolly my favorite because of how fucking hopeless and lost it makes you feel. this is the best hack ive seen that actually accomplishes that.

bost fun romhacks that arent just shitty spriteswaps and lazy bullshit like that

 No.404

yeah you're right about that, the introduction of a map in the later metroids kinda killed the vibes the original metroid gave you with its haunting chiptune

 No.405

SM64 Star Road was pretty good from what I remember, hopefully someone ports it to the new PC version. Also randomizers are always fun for when you've played a game to death and want a new experience, best one I've found is the OoT randomizer

 No.406

>>404
this one does have a map, but its ok imo as it has some pretty obtuse environmental puzzles, and a lot of parts where you will warp and not know wtf even happened, ending up getting lost in a loop

the one thing super metroid did have in spades over the original is its controls, but thats kinda a given since the difference in console, controller, and the fact it was released over a half decade later.
and while it was spoopy, it just wasnt as spoopy

>>405
i like randomizers too
the one ive been fucking with lately is the links awakening one, which when i tried a few years ago it just wasnt there yet, is now pretty good.
https://sites.google.com/view/z4randomizer
flipping/mirroring the map is enough to really fuck me up considering how much i played the old one as a kid. then all the other randoshits on top makes it a lotta fun
