About 20 or so VPS providers closed down today. My host is not in the list, but I do not want to give them too much credit.
I have backed up the site. If it goes down, you know why.

Just wanted to post some preliminary progress regarding my AR18 build
i dont have any access to any examples of these because i live in a commie faggot state, but i've started to at least make progress on constructing an upper receiver flat.

im doing this with some knowledge ive deduced and some simplifications as such:
- an AR18 tubular receiver has internal dimensions of 1.25" x 1.25"
- an unbent flat will be approximately 5 inches across
- relative proportions from pictures will be close enough for function

using that i performed progressive rudimentary visual perspective correction for image 1 using GIMP and gridlines to get image 2. i then imported it into autocad and corrected for any rotation. i then visually mapped out the outline to get a general proportions. with this done i scaled the drawing to my 'known' dimension of 5 inches and examined the other dimensions. I then went through them and rounded up or down to units that are convenient to imperial system, and radiused select corners

This would be an iterative process of refining the flat given i dont even have access to an actual rifle. the only dimensions i can think of that will require being really close would be overall length and width. Width i know isn't going to be accurate, given that when bending sheet metal flat dimensions like that wont directly translate to the finished dimensions, but it think its a good starting point. length would be easy enough to change.

huh fusion 360 actually has interesting features.

getting some inconsistencies regarding looking at the flats. my reference flat is slightly different than everything else ive seen

30 dollars to get it 3d printed
overall dimension not actually that big
a tad over 7 inches long, less than an inch and half wide
might by one of those nodak spud receivers soon and print out a trunnion and receiver to check dimensions

developing some tolerances right now for parts.
need to buy the lower receiver to get a better idea of the upper receiver dimensions

not to get ahead of myself, but im thinking the way the trunnion is set up can be simplified. having it set up to take your standard AR15 barrel would be a plus, except theres not enough room for the index. would have to redesign how the handguards go on to. probly make them split on the other plane for simplicity sake

I found some strange speakers at goodwill today. No markings on the outside or anything. Probably homemade boxes. The "crossover" is just a capacitor. They were only $7 so I thought I'd give them a shot. Surprisingly, they sound really good. They have that vintage new england sound, like older KLHs and Advents. I looked up the model number of the speakers and they're Oxfords from 1969. I don't have any other information, but it seems that these speakers were used more in guitar amps than in stereo speakers.

you make the gloryhole yet?

why do you think he hasn't posted in so long?

I don't know a ton about amps, I have like 4 broken receivers sitting in my room that I've tried to fix unsuccessfully. Most of that shit is a mystery to me
Yeah it goes right out into the hallway

In todays episode of speakers I got from goodwill, I found some Realistic Mach 1's from ~1982. They were only $18 and in good condition I've seen them go for over $500. On these, the cabinets are a little beat up and they're filthy, but the drivers themselves are in fantastic condition. I don't have any of my amps or equipment with me, so I haven't been able to fully test them, only quickly with my friend's small Chinese amp. Even with that, they sounded really impressive. With a lot of clean power, I imagine they'll be the best speakers I've had so far.
They're gigantic, about 65lbs each, and the main woofer is fucking huge around 16".
These speakers seem to have a pretty big following, and there are a couple of mods you can do to them to make them sound even better. I'll probably re-cap the crossover and make sure those dials on the front are working and do a few of the recommended mods. I haven't decided whether I'll keep them or sell them yet.
I may even make some new boxes for them, because a lot of people say these are a little too small for the drivers.

Thank you for reading my blog post

is this possible 🤔🤔🤔

It might take a little practice.

very cool, my grandpa used to carve/whittle things. I'll take pictures of the miniature rifles and shotguns he made next time I go to my uncles. He used to always have something he had made in his hands while watching tv or talking to us, "polishing" the wood with his thumb for hours.

thats cool

Pretty cool, i wanted to get into it but went for other hobbies instead.
I still have that fancy knife, tools and tutorial i bought in a woodshop years ago.

Picked this thing up for 500 burgerbux from some guy. Made no noise at first. Been working on it off and on for the past couple months.

First thing I did was a general cleanup. The key contact bars were pretty corroded so I hit them with some rubbing alcohol and emery cloth.

The old power supply was janky as fuck, so I made a new one.

This board here, the output board, had this giant leaky capacitor on it, which I replaced. There was also a janky voltage divider circuit for generating a 6V "signal ground," so I ripped that out and replaced it with a more modern regulator chip. Once I did all that, and fixed a missing ground, it suddenly started working again.

Year 2 Edition
Making progress lately.
Once the ad hoc support /adjustment blocks are up, and I drill out the threads on the X backplate I can start work on the X plate and Z backplate

X plate mockup i made with plastic. Didnt have any alignment and the movement feels good. I'm nervous about a lot but this makes me feel a little better

Have you made a metal cut out of a dick yet?

no its not done yet

fucked up drilling the x plate… drilled oversize, as i've done multiple times since starting this. what the fuck is wrong with me. happen to have quarter inch 1018 round stock lying around. think i'll plug and weld it. idk

oh man forgot about this thread
progress still slow but ongoing
i have a jig for drilling the carriage holes for the y axis plate made, i just need to print it and drill it
my Z axis rails are half done, another hour or two to get the other one ailigned, pecked, drilled and tapped.
then i'll make a jig for the Z axis plate and i can assemble everything up until that point for a good mockup.
in order after that:
- calibrate all axis alignment
- create ballscrew to plate attachment
- install ballscrews
- add motors and motor mounts
- add riser rail bracing
- weld x axis plate gussets
- cast epoxy granite base
- install x axis rails
then everything up until now just slaps on top of my x axis carriages and the real fun (software and electronic setup) begins

Probly gonna tweak this more later so you have a more advanced sprint program since you're not coming from complete inactivity, but should work for now as is.

Anyone ever consider autism as a hobby?

I mean being autistic takes a lot of time and effort, and most people don't really understand why you do it. Most friends, family, and women think you are crazy for having it, much like many hobbies.

nah, too much work.

Was just telling my mom how I am happiest when left alone to go in deep on shit and not get bothered for repetitive actions. She looked at me oddly. I wish my roomates were more understanding too I often have to withdraw from them to enjoy myself.

Look at ways you can make some money on the side and be on the look out for opportunities for a new job. Never quite your old one though without a new job unless the environment is truly toxic.

Program Success and Standards

A succesful program is measured primarily on one basis: progression.

If a trainee is not making progress, in some form, than the program is a failure.

Because progress is the basis of a sucessful program, there has to be a method of measuring progress.

For strength training this is usually measured as an increase in a certain repition maximum (1RM, 5RM etc)
